I got these coins from my grandfather years ago. I haven't looked at them in a LONG time but when I did, I found some of them to be a little beat up (corrosion ). I need some help with identification, value (if any), and cleaning/conservation techniques for the few that are beat up. I've placed them in a gallery called Unknown Coins for viewing since there are more than just one or two pictures.

Nice start for darkside collection! The coins are:
-1 penny 1894,Great Britain,queen Victoria
-10 pfenning,Nazi-Germany
-1 Franc,Belgium
-1 penny 1964,Ireland

Those coins are not rare - so the value is in owners heart only:)

The German and Belgian WWII period ones are made of zinc, a highly reactive metal (it's the same stuff that's in the core of your post-1982 1 cent coins); there's not terribly much you can do to these coins that won't make them look worse.

Maybe I'm a purest, but I would rather have a coin that's beaten up and corroded then have a coin that's been cleaned. It just seems wrong and evil all at the same time .

Eurocoin, thank you for the information! Not to be the "student" that challenges the "teacher", but after doing a little hunting I found some images on (131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed . How can you tell it is a penny when (to me) the 1 Farthing, 1/2 Penny, and 1 Penny all look the same? Also, it's from 1874, not 1894 as I previously had mentioned, my fault.

Ah, more searching for images on the web and I agree, it is One Penny. I found some images and compared the placement of the word BRITT to the back of the Queen's head.

On the Half Penny the lettering starts equal to or above the head. On the One Penny the lettering starts below the top of the head, as on my coin.
