Received mine, thanks a lot, I really appreciate it as my first ancients at all! Well needless to say I'm absolutely clueless to cleaning these so I wasn't really expecting to do too well but one of them cleaned up pretty nice (I haven't attempted the others as of yet) I did scratch it up a little bit but for a first attempt I'm ok with that.
I can definitely make out the emperor quite well, the reverse I'm having a bit more trouble "identifying".... I don't mean identifying as all you experienced ancient collectors "identify" different reverses, lol, I'm having a hard time figure out exactly what it is I'm looking at.... It appears to be a figure standing in the enter with an off set X just below the left and center of the figure... I know it really doesn't mean anything without photos as it could be a hundred different reverses and without knowing which emperor it's basically useless info, but I just though I give am update as of now... I will try to get some photos and whatnot asap because now curiously has the best of me!
Thanks again!

If at all possible, I'm really looking forward to before/after shots and a summary of the methods used! I'm interested in knowing how to clean coins.

Here's the one that I cleaned up enough to at least make out an emperor.... Hopefully someone can help with a possible ID? Or at least the emperor as I know the reverse is a bit rough. O, and I was wrong, it's not an "X" to the left and center of the figure on the reverse, it looks like more of an "H". (I took a few closer pics but everytime I do, or crop them smaller I loose massive detail.... So this is the best for now, lol)

First, you want to identify the type, I recommend surfing through Tesorillo. Once you've done that, take a look at the emperors that issued the type and the legends they used. This one is a bit of a pain because 2 emperors with similar names issued it, but you can determine between the 2 by the length of the legend on the obverse. Comparisons on wildwinds will certainly help you here.
