Hey everyone! Haven't been on the forum in over a year. I'm still looking for info on attributing my Trade dollar. Does such a variety add extra value to a relatively common coin? Thanks.

Taken from an online source:

Large S. Blunt tail to R of DOLLAR, but no periods after E of FINE or R of DOLLAR: Not in Walter Breen's Encyclopedia. Fewer than a dozen seen to date. Discovered by James R. Arnold (his specimen is EF and weighs 417.9 grains). The period after the final A in AMERICA is a tiny crescent. Evidently the hub was damaged. "Does this occur on 1878 trades of any mint?" asks Walter H. Breen.

Coins92, maybe a picture of the obverse would help to get some response.
Welcome back.
I'm still learning about Trade dollars but, lets shake and rattle CCF members to give you input!

Coins92, well shucks. I was looking forward to see what SsuperDdave had to say. I know he works crazy hours. Maybe this post will show up on his wall.
Can you post an obverse picture?

SsuperDdave is not only working the usual mad hours but also trying to find a new place while prioritizing and shedding a few years of excess possessions. Ugh.

I found little about this one, no more than the OP. It's my thought, coins92, that you're best off contacting the TradeDollarNut himself to pick his brain on the variety. Contact info is on his website (that name, dot com), although with the efficiency of CCF's Google spidering I'm not posting it in public. My guess is that your obviously Mint State coin is one of the higher-grade examples of whatever population there is, and isn't easily valued in such a specialized market. But, yeah, it's gonna fetch a premium. Probably a sizable one.
