I believe the sealed coins sets in plastic first appeared in 1961. The mint only offered George V1 coins (1937-52) in specimen cases.

thanks 1945V, I didn't think so. This set has both 47 varieties, 48 A to sm dent, 49 A between dent. The sleeve looks very very done, but where would this have come from for retail. I found 3 identical sets that can be bought.

I saw this ad on kijiji for the three sets also. I emailed the man and asked for close up pictures and they revieled that some of the coins had small green spots so I passed on the offer. If you do decide to buy the sets I would recommend examining them in hand before making anything final. Good luck.

thanks Nathan, I did see the one with green on the 52, so I'm a bit leary as there were also some other stains that would reduce value for sure. Any idea how these sets came to be sealed as such? Jon

Ya the 52' was probably the worst. The man claimed that his father bought them from the mint in the 50's, but I have never seen any of them before and am not certain how/when the sets were made. There were some really nice, earlier date coins in the set though and if you do decide to buy them be sure to let us know how they grade.

It's in the air for the moment, I have a friend in B.C. checking the sets before I do the buy. He's not so convinced on the deal at this time tho, as he feels there's something that's not right. Cheers. ty. Jon

These were not packaged by the mint. Put in plastic by someone trying to squeeze an extra buck from a quite common low value set of coins. Good on them if it works.

1948, MS64 (as I thought that coin to be) A to sm Dent, 500.00 coins and canada, but there's something with the coins that's not right, too many directional scratches of sorts, yet they don't seem circulated. Somethings just not right on them, or perhaps it's my juvenile coin (greenhorn) inadaquecy popping up lol. What ever the case ty all for your thoughts, dam this is a big learning filled with curve after curve lol. Cheers. Jon.

to me these look circulated....cleaned....then sealed. Trying to be sure of my thoughts on the set to justify the possible purchase. If in fact they are what I'm thinking I'll be passing on them. Thanks again for all the help. Jon
