To make a long story short....

Last Friday I was asked to ID some coins at the local library that they found in their safe, that had not been opened since the mid '60s. The coins had no identifying paperwork. There was about 150 or so coins, in boxes. Many of which are modern in manufacture say 1787 to 1925 or so.

Among the coins was three lonely bronze coins in a relatively poor state of preservation. I was able to ID the coins with certainty. SOOOoooo word got out that I had ID coins dating as early as 290BC. I was then asked to due a 30 min presentation on ancient coins and the ones found in the collection. I reluctantly agreed.

Next thing I know I was interviewed by the New Haven Register. They took like a hundred pictures of me with the coins. So I expected to be in a 2x2 square on page 7 in a Thursday paper. Well that's not what happened....

I ended up with an 8.5 x 11" color photo of my mug on the FRONT PAGE of the Saturday Newspaper.

I am also online....

Laugh guys...go ahead...

I will be giving a presentation on Tuesday 3/25 at 6pm at the Hagaman Memorial Library. 227 Main Street East Haven, Connecticut.

Note I was miss quoted and the attributions are all screwy...but from what I hear its typical of the Register, but I wont begrudge a Newspaper that puts me on the FRONT PAGE, when their are missing Jetliners and derailed trains to cover....

They also called me an ancient coin expert, which I absolutely told them I am not...I consider myself a novice numismatist.

I encourage anyone in the area to attend it will be fun...

This is an excellent article Nate. It's nice to see that other people are interested in learning about ancient coins. Wish I was back East, I would attend for sure.

Awesome ANoob!

The ancient coins are really worth what someone is willing to pay. There's no catalog that says ‘this is how much they're worth

This is my favourite quote. I am sure this is the misquote. We usually say they are worth what some idiot is willing to pay for it!

And now you know how most "experts" become "experts"...
