http://www.ebay.com/itm/1890-1-NES-...em20e1062af3I also stumbled across a 1890 MS 65 that I got in a bundle deal at an estate sale. Being a newbe to coin collecting I got excited at first but figured it was some off the wall grading service. Looking for a little info--Be gentle. I mean $199 buy it now?

This coin is a basement slab that is probably AUish in real world grading. If you are going to buy slabbed coins stick to PCGS, NGC, ANACS and even ICG and regardless of what the label on the plastic holder says, buy the coin not the slab.

By ebay policy that is an illegal listing and should be reported. ONLY 4 TPG's are approved by ebay and ONLY those names can be used in a title. VIOLATION 1: Since NES is not "blessed" by ebay (for good reason) it is treated as a raw coin by ebay. VIOLATION 2: In that case the use of a numeric grade in the title is ALSO a violation of ebay policy. VIOLATION 3 & 4: The same two policies apply to the description. I don't know what if any buyer's protection you'd have if you won this lot since it shouldn't even be there.

Hmmm. It appears to be gone, which is where it belongs.

This is the so called MS-65 I have in question. Keep in mind that I do not buy individual coins as I got my start by being dragged to estate sales by wife. I noticed at a couple of them the people who organized the sale would just lump "coins" into a tin or Tupperware and just put a figure on it--One simply had $50 on it and I was thinking "Darn-looks like a pretty good deal" so I picked it up and so.... here I am. Forgive the pic as I vow to improve. But I think you can see some detail.

Yikes. Hope you got a few other coins in addition to this one for your $50. Don't feel bad every collector makes mistakes, stick around and read the forums. You will learn a lot, I know I have.

Joe2007--I really appreciate the education you guys provide for people like me just getting started--but yea, if you read my post I had a bunch of pre 64 dimes halves and nearly had face value of $42 so really couldn't go wrong but I have several "graded" from off the wall companies I am sure are not recognized. But my game has turned an early profit "healthy" by my standards so I am feeling good about it so far so good.
