Well, it was presumably manufactured when Wallace was governor of Alabama, but it is unclear who the target market was and why the tokens were made. Anyone know anything about this token?

I would suggest that your medal (it's not a token) was issued by the Alabama Tourism Department as a promotional piece while Wallace was Governor. Similar pieces have been given out by state tourism boards to encourage folks to visit.

Well, you sent me to the glossary to determine the difference between a medal and a token. I will try to do better next time.

Along with cars, presidents, states and other stuff it looks like the "coins"(tokens) that were given out by assorted gas /oil companies over the years I believe there was a Governor series too. Before State Quarters , most were about the size of quarters
