I have been using the 1st edition of the Whitman Canadian Coins and Tokens book that came out a year or two ago. I now see a 2012 Canadian Colonial tokens 8th edition book which I have never seen before. Does anyone know if there is much more information in the Charlton over the Whitman book?

I have the Canadian Colonial 8th Edition but not the Whitman. If there is specific information you are looking for, I can look it up for you.

Good reference material is the backbone of numismatic studies. In addition to those previously listed,
another respected work is "Coins of Canada" authored by Dr. Haxby and Willey. All contain a wealth of
information. Of the three, Whitman's first edition "A Guide Book of Canadian Coins and Tokens" by Dr.
Haxby contains the best photographs. In this work, Dr. Haxby discusses a variety of tokens in popular
use which were not included by Charlton's. Charlton limits the work primarily to tokens solely in use
in Canada. Charlton's works have been around long enough for their reference identification vernacular
to have become standard. When people ask concerning an LC-60A1, people can readily understand. Years
ago, most tokens were referenced by Breton, Lees, Gibbs, Sandham, Wood, Batty, Bowman, Courteau, etal.
attribution identification reference number. Charlton's reference identification was pretty much
replaced the previous numbers. Branko Marelic and Greg Ingram, and Richard Bird have published excellent
works on several series of tokens.
