I often wonder where the Canadian Currency museum gets their coins..Do they go out to individual coin owners and buy them...Do they hang around auctions and buy them or is most of what they have accumulated donated to them..?

I'm still learning, but for this I suspect it was an eliptically clipped coin which was stuck on the obverse die that struck the (should have been) obverse of this coin.
