I guess it must of been heavily corroded, I would say that because of the corrosive look on the surface of the coin. The blotches are indicative of a form of corrosion.

I can't find anything regarding a thin flan for this year, but I've heard about thin flans on brass 3d's. And I feel the prototypes used for that year were the Edward VIII, which are very sort after. Only few are known to be in peoples possession, whilst an anonymous few remain 'out their'.

I may not be correct, but my conclusion is corrosion in my opinion-probably in an atmospheric surrounding of ammonia.

Yeah I feel the corrosion is more validated now, you can see the coin is not flat. And on the edge, you can see what look like corrosive 'bubbling'.

It appears to have been acid treated.

I've found one or two on the beach with my metal detector that were almost as thin - probably decades of immersion in sea water and being rubbed in the sand and pebbles by the tide... But I well remember the 12-sided threepenny bits in circulation and never saw one in really bad shape - the oldest were only 34 years old at the time of decimalisation and many George VI ones were still in F to VF condition.
