Hi All,

My first post on the forum, I've only been collecting Japanese banknotes for the past year or so. Mostly been buying a few here and there on ebay, but now I'm getting to a point where ebay no longer have what I wanted or are getting expensive. Wondering if there's any pointers as to where else I can look?

Thanks in advance for helping a newbie along the path.

Go to coin/banknote conventions, junk bins are always full of Japanese notes, especially here in Australia.

Thanks Ark for the tip. You mean some of the shows listed below? I have checked a few retail stores here in Melbourne and in Brisbane. Unfortunately, selection for Japanese notes are not great. But will give the shows a try, never been to one before would be a great experience if anything.

Might Want to mention you are in Victoria, Australia, so the rest of our forum family does not recommend you go to a local shop in Japan or some other venue far from home.
Also have you checked any of the local coin and banknote clubs?

Melbourne has a chapter of the International Banknote Society that meets monthly.

Thank you all for the kind advice and tips, will check all of them out!

I haven't checked any of the local clubs, didn't know there were any :( But will definitely try to get along to one of the IBNS meetings. I might send them an email before hand to make sure I'm welcomed as a non-member, at least for the first meeting.

In terms of online resources, I suppose ebay is the best bet?

I've recently ordered the 2014 catalog for Japanese coins and notes, hopefully that'll give me a bit more knowledge of what I'm collecting!

Thanks once again, appreciate all the input!
