Hi,

I picked up this coin recently which a Chinese friend read for me as "China year 15" with Sun Yat-sen on the obverse, and "1 yuan" on the reverse.

The problem is, I cannot find any "year 15" yuan in K&M, nor can I find a matching image on a Google images search.

Any idea what I actually have here?

Thanks!

You have a fake coin. Yuan of Republican China are the most faked in the world because the modern People's Republic of China only bans the faking of modern Chinese coins (and even that is poorly enforced).

It's a poor quality copy (fake) of a very rare "pattern" coin minted in the 15th year (1926) of the Republic. The portrait is Sun Yat-sen.

In Chinese catalogs, it is ranked as "five stars" which means it is as rare as they come.

According to the Chinese catalogs, the exact background surrounding the coin is "unknown".

Sorry, but I have to agree.

The overall appearance is very typical of the cheaper style fakes/fantasies/replicas. The way the "tarnish" appears to have been spray-painted on is very similar to mine.

Oh, well. At least it was a cheap fake.

Looking through some of the other fakes posted in the "Show us your worst counterfeit" thread was very educational (and amusing). Some of the older counterfeits I would have bought without a second thought (and now wonder whether I have already )

Thanks for the speedy replies!
