penny didnt seem to tarnish in areas.dots seemed doubled.letter a missing leg.

I stand to be corrected, but my first thought is lamination, post strike. That lamination must have happened recently because the metal underneath still looks quite bright, and still has somewhat of the salmon pink colour of unpatinated copper.
