Does the upper eyelid look normal--or doubled? It's not listed for this year.
For reasons, I'm not giving the date, but it's before 1886

What's-In-The-Eye-Of-This-IHC?

Liberty appears doubled as well judging from your photo.

Based upon what I see in front of the forehead and upper nose IMO you'll have to consider a remnant from a die clash.

There was definitely a clash, but I don't think it would have affected the Eye or Liberty. I do see some sort of doubling on the I & B along with the eyelid, but it's hard to tell what exactly with that pic. Looks like a good possibility to me.

Could this be a die scratch similar to the bar lip (S1b) on the 1871 IHC. Just guessing.
