What is the best way to deal with the Steel cents as far as care and restoration?

I have some in not so great shape and was wondering what I can do about them.

Any info would be great.

Thank you

First, what is your reason to "restore/care" for them? In general, circulated steelies are not worth the effort to conserve them,IMHO.

Good enough reason as any.But like I said it's not really worth the time.Might make a good experiment though. Before and after photos.

Very rarely are the 43's worth the effort of conservation. In fact, they are basically impossible to conserve without ruining. Rather than spend the money and effort, it would make more sense to buy new coins. You can buy these in mint state for super cheap as they are not rare or even scarce.

OK, The reason I asked is I ran across a roll of them in various states of condition and it is my very first time having them.

Some are Well used and others I think are re-plated because they look almost chrome.

There are a few that 'look right' and are in great condition and a few that could be MS but have tiny spots of what looks like, well, rust.

A few from each mint as well. P,D,S mints.

Just think they are neat and would like to see what I can do with them.

As mostly already said, not worth a lot of time and money attempting to fix them. However, one thing you could do is just wipe them with any kind of Oil. Even motor oil. If already starting to RUST, and with those rusting is the correct term, if you want to spend the time, just wipe oil on them. Then wipe off any excess oil. Do not use any water based solution since if the Zinc coating is going, the Steel inside will rust faster. I never could figure out why so many people spend time and money reservicing or replating them. IF you go to a coin show, usually you'll find those with Zinc or Tin or Chrome or even Copper plating. I like the Copper plated ones best.
