Lincoln Cent that has been struck off-center. An off-center strike is a result of a coin being struck outside the collar. When making the coin the planchet was struck off center. they can also get struck twice...

Picture a blank coin planchet not centered then struck only in the area of the die.
oh yeah a off center strike will show be offset on both sides of the coin which is different from a misaligned die error..

Its called a off center struck or off center multiple struck coin. Good news is, its copper and won't rot away, like a zinc would. Its in pretty decent shape, maybe Mint State 60 or so. The good news is that its quite off center and these can fetch a decent premium. You'll have to research prices for multiple strikes, but remember this is just a double struck, not a Triple or quad. Read the off center strike section here, gives some details http://www.fleur-de-coin.com/articl...trike-errors Red Book has prices on some multiple off center strikes, but I would imagine it could be worth between 20-60 bucks, maybe more to the right collector.

OP was off center not double struck. When the date is not visible, it is worth less but still worth allot more than a penny.

How did the large area on the coin get the Obverse stamp, but leaving the Reverse blank?

Quote: How did the large area on the coin get the Obverse stamp, but leaving the Reverse blank? It's not the same coin as the OP coin. Neither of the OC coins shown in this thread posted both sides of the coin.

undated off center lincolns aren't that uncommon, and aren't worth nearly as much as dated ones.
