I want to learn more about colonial currency. I am interested in both the history as well as pricing/valuation of such pieces. Is there a good resource for this. I couldn't really find anything good on the web. Everything I found is either incomplete or confusing.

I looked into that and it does seam like a great resource, however I can't find a printing since the 2008 edition. I know form collecting large size notes, that prices have changed quite a bit since 2008. I may get the book anyway just for the history. It is also unfortunate that I can't seam to find it in anything other than hardcover.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Your best price guide is not going to be a book. It will be looking at the recently closed auctions on Heritage.

Eric Newman's book is a must have. It is full of great information. Shop around and get a good deal, I got mine a couple years ago for about $30.00.

Also check out this site http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCurrency/ It's a University of Notre Dame site with loads of photos and informational essays.

I have a collection too, which you can see here http://www.banknoteden.com/USA_Colonials.html If you happen to get one I have, I likely have even more info if you'd like.

Here's a 5th edition on ebay for $55 + $4 shipping http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Early-P...em19ecebcbec

It's a lot cheaper than I could find anywhere else. Most were close to $100.

I decided to buy that book off of ebay. Can't hurt to have it. I'll probably just take whatever price is quoted from the book and make a standard adjustment. Looking up heritage prices is fine for just one purchase here and there, but gets tedious if you are shopping around several items. Searching their database is technically straightforward, but isn't that user friendly IMO.

just an update

The book was great. Gave me everything I needed and I find the pricing estimates to be adequate as well.
