The title of this thread is what I saw when looking up a now overdue shipping of an ebay coin purchase that should have been here by now. Based on the time it was entered, at 4:30 or so yesterday it looks like our carrier came by while my wife and I were standing in the front yard talking to a couple of cable TV techs who'd dropped by to talk about some work they were going to do.
I recall seeing the truck at our curbside box and him driving off. Why the heck he didn't get out and walk it up to me if it needed a signature I don't know. Has anyone else had this happen and if so do they make another attempt? It was a $13 purchase- a signature requirement was thoughtful but a bit of overkill IMO.

You can do two things.
1. Depending on your neighborhood, you can go find him when he is on his route and ask him if you can have the package. Make sure you have the notice he left and picture ID, a drivers license would do that shows street address.
2. Call the Post office, and ask them what time the carrier comes back to the post office and pick it up then.
3. Wait until tomorrow to get the package.
4. For packages that DO NOT require signatures, you can log onto USPS.com and fill out a release form online. If the carrier thinks thats a safe avenue, he will release the package. AGAIN, this is NOT for things you have to sign for.

Your package may have been insured. If the seller forwarded you a tracking number, you can enter it in at the USPS home page and the results will tell you if it is insured or signature delivery. Most small and medium sized FLAT RATE priority mail boxes come with $50.00 insurance, 100.00 on the large Priority mail FLAT RATE boxes.

It happens. Yes it's frustrating. We were home last month and the same thing happened to us. I think most of the time the carrier will come to the door, but for whatever reason, probably having a busy day, this time she didn't. I just called the post office and they said they would hold it and I could come and get the package whenever I wanted.

Update- I got the mailing the next day. The statement I quoted was not on a note left in my box- it was what I saw when checking on line for tracking information. I should know by now that USPS tracking info is not exactly always to be relied upon- this may have been some glitch in their system. The mailing was not sent with any signature requirement so all is ok now- BTW, it is a beautiful coin- a 1939-s Jefferson.

I think "no authorized recipient" really means "I just found this package on my truck. It's for a stop 3 blocks ago and there's now way I'm going back. They can wait until tomorrow."
