Hello,

This token/medal/medallion came into our shop on consignment. It was labeled 'Franklin Brass' but the coin dealer said he thinks it's silver. Since it's not a coin he didn't know much more than that and suggested I contact those who specialize in tokens. So here I am! The token is 1 3/8ths in diameter. The obverse has a very high relief of Ben Franklin facing to his left. Around the outside edge is 'Benjamin Franklin 1706 - 1790' in teeny, tiny print below the image is 19 20 with a symbol that looks like a tiny 'o' inside of a large 'C' between the 19 and the 20. Below that is 'by A. P.' The reverse had an open book over a flaming scepter (?) in the center. Radiating throughout are what appears to be lighting bolts. The top reads 'PRINTER', the center reads 'STATESMAN', the bottom reads 'SCIENTIST'. There are what appears to be laurel leaves at 3:00 and 9:00. Please help me in identifying this token. Thank you!

to the forum!

Your medal is actually not silver or brass, but bronze. I'm not sure how old it is, as I couldn't find much info on it; however, here is a link that may help.

Thanks to everyone SO much! I am tasked with researching old coins and tokens when them come into the shop. Some I put up on ebay. This one was giving me a fit! My coin dealer suggested Coin Community. Woo-hoo! Whew, now I can sleep...
