Krause Puts 1,200 Notes In ANA Exhibit

Wisconsin paper money from Chet Krause’s famed collection will be displayed in Milwaukee, Wis., at the Aug. 8-12 American Numismatic Association 116th World’s Fair of Money, in a remarkably large presentation.

“More than 1,200 Wisconsin notes from the collection of well-known hobby publisher Chet Krause of Iola, WI, will be displayed in an unprecedented exhibition arrayed in over 150 display cases,� said William H. Horton Jr., ANA president.

Many Wisconsinites attending the ANA show will be able to find notes related to their locales, not to mention rarities and seldom-seen notes that will appeal to specialists.

The exhibit, the largest single-state themed note exhibit ever put together for a show, will set forth a range of paper money forms with state ties, from territorial bank issues and obsolete notes of the early statehood period to National Bank Notes, local scrip, Depression Scrip and advertising notes.

“When I was traveling in the early 1960s to establish Numismatic News, I bought most anything that said ‘Wisconsin’ on it,� Krause said, dating the start of his paper pursuits to 1960.
