I recently purchased a coin and I have traced its origins back to the "John A. Seeger Collection". I have done countless searches but have been unable to find any information about the man himself. He must have some noteworthy achievements or surely the provenance wouldn't be noted. Does anyone know who this man is? or have any links to information on this gentleman. I am interested to see what time period he is from etc....THANKS IN ADVANCE!

This is a very nice coin of the emperor Hadrain with the legend HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS on the obverse and on the reverse COS III PP (counsel for a 3rd term and Father of the Country).

Fortuna seated left holding a rudder on a globe and cornucopia. FORTRED.

John A. Seeger was probably a lesser collector who may have had his collection auctioned and perhaps out of his estate.
It may be possible to stumble across his name with a search of the records of some of the major auction houses.

That is a common way how coins get to attain an auction history. Provenance can be assisted with such a history.

You will need some documentary support to demonstrate how this coin fits into an auction history. That support may be in the form of pictures or text, most probably from an auction catalogue.

Whoever he was, he had a very nice collection, auctioned off by CNG on the 5th of March 2007, most likely following his death.

The only thing I could find about him is an article he wrote in the Numismatic Chronicle in 1972 entitled 'An unpublished drachm of Antiochus VI'. I havent been able to find the article online, but the book is easily acquired. I suspect you might learn more about the guy from that.

nice looking coin, now part of the "silver surfer collection".

I've often wondered who people's names where I've seen associated with coins, and it usually turns out to be a case like sel outlines. got to agree with ben, whoever mr. seeger was, he had good taste in coins.

Nice coin. I recently acquired some coins from Gordon Wyatt Goldfinch seems he died at a very young age in WW1 and his family just recently sold his collection to a auction house. Someone got the collection at a great price and are selling the coins at a nice profit with the provenance attached to the coins

Thank you for all of your insightful ideas. I will likely purchase the numismatic magazine with his article in it. I do like the coin quite a bit, its almost like a medallion. If anyone knows anything further please post! Thanks again
