I bought this off ebay it was looking interesting? I couldnt tell if it was Machine Doubling, DDO or rpm?

It was listed on ebay as a 1971-S Lincoln Cent DDO but when I was checking it to the markers and images on coppercoins, it did not look correct to me.

But it did look kind of like a 1971S-1MM-002 to me? But wait no die crack? No markers

So I assume so then I assumed it is just Machine Doubling?

Either way I posted it and bought it for reference.

The auction was ending and it was cheap so I bought it anyway figured it be a good learning piece to grab either way..

The big clue for coins in the era is the doubling is on both the date and the mintmark. The mintmarks were punched in the dies by hand. So the mintmarks will have RPM's but not die doubling. The chances of having an RPM in the same direction and strength as a doubled die is very low.
Also the doubling on the coin above is flat and shelf-like.

MD - I enjoy finding them nonetheless and if it displays significant movement like this one, I set it aside. I've been noticing that the more modern Jefferson's seem to have significant examples of MD.
