Is this a Ptolemy I or II? Is there a definite way to make that distinction?

Or this one?

There are a few nice looking ones on Vcoins as well, but how do I know if they're I's over II's?

Have a look at this site, your coin does not look like any Ptolemy that I have seen, but I am new to this area.

I hadn't seen the elephant headress before, interesting. I assume you pay more if you get the trunk!

it's very hard for me to tell these apart. probably the one on coins are correctly attributed..I'm really familiar with the ebay seller, but I have seen their listings before.

long story short...use pish's link!
the fist section is "coin photos" go there first. if it isn't clear what you've got, go to the link on the same page called " read svoronos online"..it has lots of details on types.

There's actually an Alexander elephant headdress coin on the Forvm auction right now, at least for about 6 more hours.
