I now wish I had the peso notes back. The notes are probably worth more as collectibles (or will be one day) than the few dollars which the bank gave me.

I really admire what you did -- bringing a $6000 mistake to the bank's attention when they didn't have a clue. It is tough to do the right thing. You showed a lot of class, biscuit. You rock, dude!

That said, you have to wonder how banks get themselves into the mess they are in, when banks make a $6600 mistake and are completely clueless to it.

Mostly run by computers. Little training of new hires. Anyone having experience and good judgement was deemed too expensive and laid off long ago. Big turnover, nobody stays very long. Anyone making a mistake will not want to own up to it. I think is why it took so long.

One of my banks was recently taken over by a much larger bank. Yep, you guessed it. They trained nobody, so when you would go in, they couldn't locate your accounts etc.(talk about scary) Then I got stupid notices about this and that and too many transactions etc. So I voted with my feet along with quite a few other customers and pulled all my accounts from their bank. Just after the takeover I commented to my wife, watch their going to start reducing hours and close branch locations. Sure enough, earlier this month they closed both branches that we dealt with, and reduced hours at the others.

I'm honestly not sure if it was integrity or that I was afraid of the consequences I might encounter down the road. If I had a 100% guarantee that I would not get caught, what would I do? I can't say for certain. I would like to say that I would still return it. I read someone's definition of integrity once and it was something like ... doing the right thing even when nobody else is around. And I think there will be a day when we will be judged for our words and actions. I was really wanting a tractor or nice riding mower to cut the grass/weeds on my 4 acre tract. But I will keep cutting a little at a time till I get it all cut. It was good to see all the responses on here who said to give it back. Guess there are still some good folks left in the world. Take care.
