Quote: I've been hesitant to post this one because the ships presented on the coin are not sailing ships - they are modern steam-powered ships (circa 1936). But, as I've already posted all of the classic era US commemorative coins that feature a true sailing ship, I thought I would add this one to complete the "collection" via a general "ships on coins" contribution. An important distinction, but I am glad to see if finally posted here. Quote: The coin depicts two ships in San Francisco Bay. A ferry ship is seen closest to the SF Ferry Building (in the foreground), and an ocean-going passenger liner is depicted further out in SF Bay (on a direct heading for the second tower! ). Both ships appear to be under full steam. Excellent! I really appreciate the more subtle examples, when the topic object or objects are less obvious.

Here's my 2018 "240th Anniversary of Captain Cook at Nootka Sound" commemorative silver dollar issued by the Royal Canadian Mint ( RCM). The commemorative reverse design of the colorized silver dollar includes portraits of Captain Cook and a chief of the Mowachaht people (the First Nations people living at Nootka Sound at the time). Between the portraits is Cook's sailing ship, the HMS Resolution, at rest, anchored within the Sound. The coin was available only in the RCM's Special Edition Silver Dollar Proof Set for 2018; it was not sold individually by the RCM.
