I have an older Sony Mavica dig camera. I like the fact that it does not require cable hookup to the computer, but uses floopy disk to transfer pics. My problem is that it takes poor close-ups. So I am looking for a fairly inexpensive camera ($75 to $150 maybe?) that is not real complicated to use (low-tech) that takes pretty good close-up images. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

James, I remember those Mavica's well. I used to own one when they just came out. You would definitely benefit from changing to a different camera.

I did a quick review search on Amazon and came-up with Fujifilm FinePix S602 that has an impressive rating.

Anyone has any experience with this FinePix?

Or you could go with a Canon PowerShot A550

Thanks for the info. Yeah, the old Mavica's are extremely convenient. Just pop out the disk and pop it in the computer. But not a lot of pixels. If I photograph anything smaller than a slice of bread, I don't get the best detail. I will do some homework. I am looking for something simple to use and inexpensive, but with the pixels and detail. I may ask some of the folks on ebay what they use. Thanks again.

Biscuit, you're going to hear a lot of recommendations for the Canon PowerShot A-series and the equivalent Nikon models. Look for one with a dedicated Macro mode, and as much manual adjustability as possible, and you won't go wrong.

If you can find one and there are still new ones out there the Sony Cyber shot DSC-F505 is the best point and shoot camer for coins I have used. I still regret selling mine. The DSC-F707 comes close but the Macro is not quite as good.
The cameras were not popular as they used big Carl Ziess lenses but its the lens that makes all the difference.
you should be able to pick up a New 505 for around $100 used about $50. A 707 will be about twice that.

Based on your price rand of $75-$150 I'd be tempted to look at the used market. There are a lot of 5 to 6 megapixel cameras with macro for under $200.

I've seen older Canon A series (400-600) $75-$150, I've even seen my Sony H2 camera going for $175.
