The seller lists an AE4 of this lot as Johannes, but the legend is a bit fuzzy, so it is hard to tell. I`m pretty sure he has a beard, so I wouldn`t mind snagging this.

With this one, I doubt it, just judging by the design style of Victory, which looks earlier. All ill say is, without a legend, it cant be assigned a name. Even the reeally late ones wihch are clearly after Johannes are worthless without the legend.

I agree, it doesn't really look like its him. From the style it looks more like an earlier emperor such as Arcadius or Theodosius. But even if coins don't have a name left, if they have a type unique to them, or a unique combination of field marks/legend/mintmark, etc., there is still a possibility they can be id'd positively.

I hate to show off, but I was in a similar situation as you a few months ago. Found myself a small lot of coins, nothing really looked to special. But then I saw what looked to be a Johannes in the mix. I took a chance and sur enough, it was him, my second-ever Johannes. After evenly dividing the final price, I ended up paying $5 for it. The rest of the lot wasn't bad either. Just goes to show that gems can still be found
