Precious Metals and Bullion - Gold, Silver, Copper, Platinum

Copper is not really a precious metal and we talk about it and nickel all the time.

Does anyone else hoard Aluminum?

When I was a kid we would smash cans and store them all year long to cash them in in late June so we could buy tons of fireworks.

Hearing loss and Jumping Jacks FLYING INTO YOUR JACKET!! The good old days

So these days I'm down to cat food cans mostly and have sort of gotten into the habit of hoarding them (mostly just have not taken the time to take them in, I do clean them so the stray's don't get into them)

I have not really been paying attention to trends in the recycle price for Aluminum, is now a good time to just sit on it or is it riding high at the moment?

Not being a Precious Metal it's not easy to find charts that are very useful.

Thanks

Aluminum was once considered a precious metal.

I hoard it until I get enough to scrap out. Cans, siding, security light housings, pots, pans, foil, even old telephone booths. I once scrapped out 12 extruded alum phone booths (with permission, from a dumpster), extruded lately brought me 60 cents per pound.

Yep.
The Washington Monument is topped off with a pyramid of aluminum.
Back in 1848 when they started it aluminum was worth more than gold.

Solid Aluminum at that
yeah I had mentioned that in "How far back can we go? Second Edition!" https://goccf.com/t/161525

some time in the 1930's or '40's I think

My recycle place doesn't take foil, my guess is they got sick of paying 40+ cents per pound on pan scrapings but I'll still stuff it into pop can's to get it past them

I just called both of my locals and they both said 40 cents per pound...

so here is the NEW question ? ? ? ? ?

How low does silver have to be and how high does aluminum have to be before you exchange them??

I collect numismatic items. Have about 800 pounds of five cent pieces could be called hoarding. Other than that I "hoard" family and friends.
