I agree that the issues from Lugdunum have the most appeal. The portraits while somewhat stylistic at least show some realism rather than the cartoon likenesses coming out of the eastern mints like Heraclea. The period of the tetrarchy was a transition from the old empire to a new reinvigorated empire. It is easy to conflate the past and view the world of Constantius (AD 290's) as being all too similar to the world of Septimius (AD 190's).
The world had changed and so had the generalissimo emperors ruling it.
Constantius was one 'tough nut' ..... and it shows
