Hey guys,

I'm looking to possible add some more Shield nickels to my collection. Any advice? I'm looking for 1866, 1871, 1872 and 1875. If I got those I would have all but highest priced ones (proof only years, very low mintage).

I'm looking for say VF to AU , but probably lower with the 1871 as it is a bit pricey.

The ebay selection is limited and many are damaged with 'details' grades or too low grade. I prefer ones not in a case.

I'd say just get to coin shows if you want raw and not slabbed

with dsfreeworld, definitely check out a coin show or your local coin shop! That's the best place to get hands on experience and really take a good look at what you're purchasing.

Personally, I like Harlan J. Berk for Shield nickels. Just scroll down the types of denominations until you find the coin type you like. Check 'em out!

Personally I like coins that are not priced well above retail. Unfortunately I am not aware of a single internet seller who even comes close on the majority of their offerings.

To the OP, Shield nickels of the years you are asking for in decent grades do come up for sale on ebay quite often. Maybe not several per day like a Wheat cent or the like, but often enough. You should be able to win at least one auction per week for great prices. You can probably get several decent ones by making offers on BIN/BO.
