sorry I do not have a photo - someone came into my shop with what looked like a very old "i.o.u" note - I wasnt sure what to make of it - it had a routing number on it as well as a watermark - it did not have a denomination on it however - I know this is ambiguous- anyone ever heard of some type of old i.o.u. notes being anything of value? I twas definitely from the 18th century as she had a lot of other pieces from this time period.

ElCerrito,

Anything from that century has value to collectors. It's actual value would be determined by "provenance" as well as condition. The provenance would take into account the signatores (anyone famous) and/or the intent of the promissory note. A slave note commands high prices (used for debts incurred in the slave trade). I am no expert, but would recommend further investigation. Here's a link to someone selling Promissory Notes and the asking prices.
