I got this coin in a lot of hammered English coins but don't recognize it. it looks like the tudor rose hammered over a portrait of Edward VI on one side.

the size I remember is about the same as an Edward VI penny.

real happy to have received my first hammered and hitherto earliest English coins in my collection!

I'd say this is a halfgroat of James I. Crowned rose and crowned thistle. Obverse legend I:D:G ROSA SINE SPINA. Mintmark cross.

thanks for the identification! so it's the 1618-19 issue, according to online sources then. I'm only just starting to learn how many varieties there are to early coinage
