Hello everyone..
I have decided to do a modern commems dansco collection. Going to start with the silver dollars coins. Looks like currently its a 3 book set from dansco.. About 144 coins.. Has anyone done one of these collections? It looks to be alot of fun!!

Good luck on your quest. I have a set in proof but still in the air tights. Are you going for the BU or proofs?

I've been a collector of the modern US series for a good number of years. I've been buying the UNC versions.

Keeping the coins in their original packaging makes it inconvenient to view the collection. So, I take the coins out of their boxes (but keep them in their capsules) and store them in Lighthouse coin trays. This way, I get to view them 20 at a time and have individual pieces available for quick access.

I fellow member at my local coin club has put a set together and keeps them in the Dansco album set you mentioned. They look good in the albums. The first time he brought them to a club meeting for me to have a look, I was surprised by how heavy each of the full albums was. Make sure you "warn" folks when you hand them your full albums!

Best of luck with your pursuit! Keep us updated!

on the weight of some of the books, I just did a 1964-2012 PDSS Kennedy book and it could be ballast on a shipping vessel!! I am not sure as far as what I am going to chase unc or proof.. Probably for a change buy a book first.. And just follow the instructions.. I have just one silver dollar commem. The awesome Eisenhower in a pcgs slab.. I wont bust it out but I will have a second. My wife and I absolutely adore the Texas commems.. What a amazing design!! Be cool if the mint did something with that design in a dollar coin!! I have a few commem halves probably do those after the dollar coins.. Thanks for the info!! I'm to a point in my collection where I either start a second collection or find new stuff to collect!! I'm kinda a modern coin guy.. Although the new HOF coin that will be interesting when Dansco makes a page for those!! I bet they are going through a corporate hahaha

I'm also a fan of modern commems.
I collect the unc versions for the looks (I prefer them to proofs) and I like the low mintages.

There are some very nice, under appreciated designs like the smithsonian, us capitol, Leif ericson and bald eagle to name a few of my favorites.

Storage is tough. I have them now in ogp in a cardboard box in my safe, but I've been considering going with the lighthouse case.

Either way, great series.

Im working on a set now. I chose the dansco way and couldn't be happier. Its very easy to get a majority of them for 25 30 bucks. Even the most expensive coins sre easy to find. Watch out for the 1996 UNCs they are brutal on the wallet. The only one that doesn't work in a Dansco is the 2014 baseball commemorative.
