What cause certain portions of the motto on a Washington quarter to be smooshed? Like the IN and We devices of the motto to be flattened? God and trust look like nice raised devices.. Just a curiousity seems like coins of this series have this alot

Hi Rupester - another possibility could be grease, sort of like "STATES" in USA on select 1983 LMCs. I don't check quarters (yet) so just guessing that if it seems particular to a year and location on the coin, it could be grease.

And another possibility could simply be strike. The IN and WE are all the way out at the rim and are about the last areas of the design to fill.
