I have an off center error coin that is going to be cleaned because it has to be cleaned.

Benji, that is a nice coin. Way too expensive for me. Back then, many of the early off centers were used for pocket pieces, Just think of the value of some of them if they were kept in mint state.

And also many had holes drilled in them, I have and Indian Head cent that is off center with a hole drilled in it.

got it for 16 bucks I think.

If the first wash doesn't break stuff loose, try the freeze/thaw cycle.

I've been doing freeze/thaw now for 5 days with some really thick gunk, no luck so far on removing even a speck. I'll give it two more weeks.

Coin in distilled water. Soak during the day, freeze during the night.

Well SuperDave, just pulled the coin out of the water and the dirt finally started moving! The date is finally visible.

I'll keep the water freeze method up for as long as it needs then.

I generally soak for a couple days before freezing, and make sure it's completely solid before thawing.
