What are your thoughts on the new 2007 Buffalo gold coin? I also see that that there is a limit of 200,000. This seems like it might be a decent investment coin.

With the high mintage, it looks like the gold Buffalo is only an investment coin. Its a great looking coin. I bought one last year and I'm not sorry I did.

I wouldn' touch it. Think about it..they didn't sell out of the 2006 Gold Buffalo proof last I checked and then they raised the price for the 2007 proof? Low mintage but I think everyone was jumping on the first strike bandwagon with the buff's. Save your money and buy the Unc. I think the mintage on the Unc, which sold out, was about 350,000 compared to the proof at 251,000 sold. Right now, at our shop, you could buy the 2006 proof buff for $775 but I don't think we have anymore. Think about the premium they are charging you, right now gold is at $663 oz. at $825.95 each, they are charging a $162.95 premium over the gold value. If you really want one, wait a while and you might find it cheaper from a dealer or on ebay. Don't get into that first strike stuff..that is just a marketing scam

I will buy unc. modern gold coins but NEVER proofs especially when they are bullion coins. With gold at its current prices I tend to prefer silver.
Rest in Peace

I picked up one of the '06 proofs. No regrets whatsoever.

The '07 is calling me.

I'll probably click soon.

Are we having fun or what?

The proof is gorgeous. That's the reason to buy it.

Something else I am not understanding. The mint says the 2007 Buffalo is the first 24-Karat dold proof coin ever struck by the mint. I do not see any difference of last years coin and the 2007....

It really is a good looking coin. I would like to add one to my collection but its hard not to look at this coin as purely an investment coin...

The Gold Buffalo coin in general is the first 24-K Gold coin struck by the US mint. It is not dictated by the year.

Really it's up to the individual collector on purchasing a coin. If you like it, you like it and buy it. Investment wise, it usually a different opinion

I couldn't agree more with these two statements.

We bought last year's coin and have no regrets.

Money is too tight to buy this year's Buffalo.
