This is currently back in the acetone soak. The debris around the stars, ad in the denticles ... is dirt stuck to lacquer or shellac. The coin had been coated with a finish of some sort long, long ago. Even though I pad a wee fraction of it's listed value, I was a bit disappointed when it arrived because it looked as though it had been polished. I'm relatively certain that the surfaces are not original at this point, but "it is what it is".

I don't believe it would grade (I don't do that anyway) ... but I think it's AU details, cleaned and artificially? retoned.

What say you?

Why is the nose like that? Same with the shield an feather. That combined with the toning makes me suspect a fake.... Where'd you get it? What's the weight? Does it pass the usual tests?

Weight is 6.2 grams .... This coin may have been "thumbed" back in the day. That would account for the lack of toning on the highest parts of the devices.

This was a late night ebay purchase. I see nothing to indicate a fake.
