Hi, I have a 1969 Canadian 25 cent piece in circulated condition with no outer rim - it's smooth as a baby's bottom, so to speak. The Charlton guide and the CoinsCanada.com website do not specify this as an error, so I'm wondering if I might have something of value in my collection. It doesn't look to me like someone would have taken the time to file the outer ridges off the coin, as it does not look like it has been tampered with other than it has smooth edges. Is this common for this year? I don't have another quarter of the same year to compare it to. Things like this are getting scarce, even in general circulation.

Thank you!

Pictures will be needed. Although errors do occur in groups or may appear to be more common in certain years, it's impossible to tell on an individual basis without pictures.

Thank you! And sure, here are the photos. I had to remove it from the protective jacket.

Thanks for the reply. Putting a quarter through the dryer once would not cause this. It would have to go through literally hundreds of times to get this smooth without much wear and tear.

I don't know how I would figure out the weight. When held (as I recall) without the protective cover, it felt like a normal quarter, but I'd have to find a weigh scale that measures grams for a proper reading.

Being 45 years old, its probably from coin machines, vending machines, telephones, one arm bandits etc, I have tons of quarters with rims similar to that.

Spooned or Dryer Coin or slots, but PMD. The "dryer" in Dryer Coin refers to the large commercial dryers, just search this site, they are common.
