Are you surprised they havent sold out yet. I thought I had read that the production of these sets stopped a few weeks back. Arent the new ones due out in a week or so. I would have expected the Bison 2 Roll sets to sell out. Does anyone know how many sets the mint has made? Are those numbers available? thoguhts on the future value of these sets?

I am sure the mint laid an ample supply of Buffalo nickels back due to their tremendous popularity and the amount of sets they have already sold. Personally, I bought sets from the mint and laid back quite a few uncirculated bank rolls but for the long term or at least until prices do start to climb. My interest, other than being a buffalo fan, is that this was basically a 6 month issue and thats never happened prior to this nickel series (at least with the nickel) other than the Statehood Quarters which last only 10 weeks per coin. I also purchased 40 proof buffalos to have and to hold, so to speak, because at the end of the year proof sets will be gone as well. Thought I was in pretty good shape and then the mint throws us all a curve ball by adding the SATIN buffalos. Yes, I had to start searching for SATINS and in my humble opinion the satin buffalo WILL be the lowest produced Buffalo nickel of the buffalo series due to the fact the proofs come out in both the clad proof set and the silver proof set. Time will tell and I do think it will take a LOT of time for any of these coins to make much of a jump. When they do it will probably be the satins, then the proofs and the unc. rolls will follow. Singles will be very slow to move. Well thats my prediction and we will have to wait for quite some time to see what develops. I do see high grade business strikes as a rarity as they just weren't up to snuff so anything over MS65 will probably be a keeper! In the Satins high grades appear to be much more common so I will take a wait and see attitude on those. In the end I would say these are LONG tern holdings and I am a very patient man!

One other thing I might add? If the coins NEVER do a darn thing you will be out a few bucks but still have the uncirculated rolls that were only made for 6 months. If they do escalate in value and you don't have any, what would you be out then? Oh, what a tangled web we weave!

The roll sets are not a limited number release. 60% of all the 50 some million coins have been placed in rolls sold by the mint. I would be darn surprised to see a sell out of these rolls.

the Mint 2 roll sets must have a production limit....why else would the other 6 month issues have sold out?

They do have production runs, however, this can be in the many millions. There are NO hard and fast rules for such a production of circulation quality coins. The U.S. Mint is not the best at guessing collector demand, but this new Bison Nickel was a no brainer even for the Mint. There will be Millions of these rolls available at any given time. This is a current hype and should not be considered investment potential at all. If you want something that has a good chance at succeeding, stick with Mint and Proof sets. These are at least somewhat limited.

I thought there was a limit on the number of 2 Roll sets that are produced, not an artificial limit, but rather a "we're done packaging these sets and when they are gone they are gone". I mean they must stop making the 2 Roll sets at some point. Dont they stop producing the two roll sets when they start the next series of two roll sets?

In the State Quarter, Kennedy, Sacagawea rolls there is a law requiring this, but I am not aware of one for the Nickel series. It may very well be that all the rolls are already wrapped and ready to go, but the supply is still great. You have to remember that the U.S. Mint is a branch of the government and logic is not always the formost factor in decisions. This Nickel series is a big cash cow, and 80% of the people in the country have no clue as to how to obtain these pieces. The Mint will sell as many as they can. There are NO numbers as to how many have been Mint wrapped, and probably won't be for quite some time.

I think the error/ varieties have and will have the the best chance for the most gain, especially if you found the variety yourself in rolls or bags. YES there is a lot of junk varieties being sold on ebay. BUT there are also some REAL varieties that have a future. The big three IMO are the "Speared Bison", "Two-Horned Bison" and "Detatched Leg Bison" Then the next level of very nice bison varieties, "Wounded Bison" , "Detached Eye Jefferson" "Bald Bison" (worn dies, but nice eye appeal) Then the long die cracks which there are many, still cool varieties imo. Major die fills are nice as well as double Cuds. Small die cracks, Cuds, and minor die fills are very common, but still carry a nice premium over face. Other coins some ebayers are calling errors ...are not or are very very minor errors not worth much. ........................ As for the high grade uncirculated Bisons, I agree with Terry that those will be in demand. I have quite a few of these I found while searching for errors. Two roll coin sets, bags, and boxes......man I have way, way too many of these. I sure hope they go up since my cost average is at least twice face. Most peoples cost average is about twice face so maybe they will hold at that. I used to buy stocks and they can go to zero. Coins bought at twice face can't go to zero. I don't see a huge price increase for the P&D rolls especially if opened... :) No worries it was fun and I have a few very nice varieties and a lot of minor varieties and about a ton of bison laying around getting coffee spilt on em...just kidding....errrr....well I guess some have been spilled on.

Errorcoins has said it best!!! IT WAS FUN! I enjoy the hunt and I was ready for that hunt on day one. Investment purposes never entered my mind as I headed out to build a herd that I could be proud of and leave to my little boy some day! At the prices I paid for most of the nickels I am not too concerned about making any money. If it happens...great and if not, who cares as I have one darned nice herd from 2005. I did spring for 3 of the speared bisons...one because I wanted it hoping that someday it would rival the 37D 3 legged buffalo (just this series) and be as famous. The other two were purchased from the original finder of the error. Any time the little guy/gal is fortunate enough to have that kind of luck I hope to be able to help them out and having a signed "first discovery" certificate from this great lady from Texas is icing on the cake. Again, I didn't buy anything here as an investment but strictly as a die hard Buffalo nickel fan. I can't help but chuckle when I do hear those folks d***ing the series and saying they will NEVER be worth nothing? They were bringing a premium the VERY DAY they were released and still are. At one point in time I was trying to locate cases for my dealer. Yes, they are popular and boy have they been fun! For what it is worth WE still have not seen any Buffalo nickels in change here in southeastern Indaina. We here about one now and then and the folks who manage to get one tuck it away as, like ND says, most folks still haven't seen them. In the end if me or my wife or children make a dime off of these nickels then it will be good and if not, well I have managed to save a few dollars and its all in nickels!!! I intend to have fun with some of them down the road!

Why? What evidence would support your claim? I'm not trying to be rude of mean here, I just would like to know if you have some info that I don't.

The Mint may stop sales soon, but that does not equal a sell out. Wholesalers will pick up the remaining inventory and it will still enter the market.

Well I just assumed they stopped producing, and there are likely enough demand to pick up what is left. My gut says they will sell out shortly after new nickels are launched. No additional evidence here, just my best guess. I wonder if anyone has final mintage figured for 2 Roll Sets?

The new nickel goes on sale August 1st. Publications like CoinWorld will post the final sales numbers once the Mint releases them. It will be in the millions, so don't get your hopes up on these sets commanding any real premium.
