Well, I have been hoarding these for the past year or so, and I am thinking to dump them back into Circulation. Having over $500 in these to me does not make much sense anymore.

The metal price needs to jump 4 to 6 times to make them more valuable than face

Looking on CoinsandCanada site, there seems to be no really rare ones other than the 73 large bust quarter, or the 2000-p dime.

The other reason I was holding these, was the thought that as the ARP pulls them out, they would become more valuable.

Does anyone see this happening, or because of the availability of getting mint sets cheap negates this happening?

what are other peoples thoughts?

Since the ARP is still ongoing , I wouldnt expect the price of the coins you are holding to go up soon but say maybe in 10 years time when the ARP has made pure nickel coins extremely scarce you will see the price rise as people (new collectors) try and put together albums.

Mint sets may prevent the price shooting up but for how long ? There is only a finite number of mint sets .....trust me, sooner or later those pure nickel coins will go up in value , the million dollar question is how long and are you prepared to wait that length of time for your stash to earn dividends.

$500 is a lot to be tied up in a hoard but I would say if you are planning to cash them in keep maybe $75 - $100 in case one day the price of those beauties goes up

Do you need the cash right now? If not, having $500 saved up isn't a bad thing at all in my opinion. If you were hoping to cash in on nickel valuation, you are likely going to wait a long time.

I would expect you have already kept the low mintage years of the coins, as well as other rarities for a later time.
I personally only keep the common dimes and quarters in really nice condition since they tend to get pretty beat up. I just started searching for the less recognized varieties, and will keep them as I find them too.

The rest of them go back towards the next bunch of rolls to search.
