I was wondering if someone could please tell me is this coin listed worth buying as an investment? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...181468079502 A mintage of 1000 seems pretty low... but then again I'm no expert either. Any help would be appreciated as I am considering buying it and there is only a couple of days left. Btw other ebay listings of this coin range anywhere from $700 to $3000... quite the spread

Personally I wouldn't buy it but that's my opinion. If your looking for investments, there's plenty of other options of other coinage to buy

Thanks for the reply coinsaus. Could you please give the reason you wouldn't buy a coin like that? To me it seems if it's such a low mintage plus completely sold out on release I would think that demand outweighs supply quite a bit and therefore it would be worth more than the issue price...

Weren't these given out via ballot? People who made purchases from the mint in that year we're eligible to enter and won the coin?

I agree with coinsaus, most gold products usually are only worth the gold content (Aust $200 gold coins for example).

ok... so then wouldn't all silver coins only then be worth their weight in silver? copper coins worth only their weight in copper? I'm not getting this logic :/ ...the coin in mention sold anyway so there was no real problem with people interested, unfortunately not sold to me though. For some reason I think I missed a good deal

Most silver coins end up at bullion plus 20%. Due to you already stating that there is a huge variation in prices I don't think demand does outweigh supply. Yes, it is a small number issued but I can see this coin in the future being hard to sell for more than bullion plus 50%.

because of the spread on this coin, the only way I would be interested in it was if it was offered in an auction setting on ebay. period.

otherwise you dont know if you are getting a fair market price.
