I recently bought a 1998 1/2 ounce Gold Panda, I didnt check the date if it was large or small (didnt actually know until after I sent it in). It was in its original mint packaging and had NEVER been opened, and had the original chinese quality slip in it. The coin had about 1/2 dozen very small brown spots in the fields so I sent it in for restoration, crossing fingers that it comes back as a 69! :-)

been 2 weeks and I keep hitting refresh!

It will be interesting to see if PCGS can do anything. I recall, dimly, that at around the time your coin was produced there was a slight change in the alloy....leading to brown spotting. I had heard that there was little that could be done to fix it( lets hope My memory is wrong)

I am affraid, that such spots are irreversible. On the other hand I would not consider such spots a damage as they are from the original alloy of the coin and not an external damage. If PCGS have graded the coin at MS68 with the spots they should not upgrade the grade it to MS69 unless they did it wrong the first time. Remember the grade is for quality/preservation of a coin not for appearance.
