I just tried it, saved as JPG just fine. I am not even given an option, JPG is the default.

This is a third party solution. I wonder if they were having a problem. Are you still having a problem?

i just tried it again...

the same result. after I croped the image and saved the change, I then tried to save the iamge in my files - and it would only let me save it as a .bmp file. I looked for something that I might have accidently chedk or changed as an option. and I dont see anything that I can change.

very strange...

i have heard that "nothing random" ever occurs with a computer - but I would argue that.

im stumped...

If you are stuck with a bmp, there is a great free program called " Irfanview" that I've been using for at least 10 years to edit images You'd simply load your bmp and save as jpg. http://www.irfanview.com/

I used Irfanview for years until I discovered Paint.net.

That aside, I have no idea why the Image Optimizer is stuck in BMP for you. I cannot find a setting, either; mine is "stuck" on JPG.

Maybe Bobby knows, hopefully he will chime in soon.

What is the file you are uploading? Apparently, it converts same to same... JPG to JPG, GIF to GIF, PNG to PNG.

Oops, just tried a BMP, will not let me upload it (says only GIF, JPG, PNG supported).

Hover over the download link, look for "type=XXX" at the end. Does it have JPG or BMP? This could be something going on with your save dialog box.

i appreciate your assistance with this.

i checked the properties for the original image. it is a .jpeg

i uploaded it again with the brpwser ling you provided.

i checked the properties of the original iamge, and also of the resized image, and they are both .jpeg.

but when I click on the "save image as" - the only option it is giving me is a bitmap .bmp file

i am going to try it with a different iamge and see if there is any other result.

thanks.

i just tried it again - with an image that I know I have resized before - with the correct result.

i again get the only save as option is ti save it as a .bmp file.

i have almost certainly done something about the settings - or defaults - or something. I'm sure it is operator error, but I dont know enough about it to know what to fix.

all in all - probably not a horrible loss. thanks again for your help...

i don't know...and I am not sure how to determine that.

i have used this optimizer (successfully) on this same computer - for the last couple of years +/-.

this has just recently started.

According to our logs, you are using Windows XP and MSIE 8.

I tried this on my Virtual Machine running that config (XP/IE8). I get the same problem as you when I right-click/save-as.

Do you see the "download this image" link below the optimized image? That still works for me in the XP/IE8 setup.
