This is why safes aren't safe.

I'll bet this turns out to be a friend of a friend or someone else who knew what they were after.

Very sad. Hopefully the victim is not a member here.

Edit to add: There is a bit more detail in this Citizen version of the story. Police do suspect there was prior knowledge of the location of the collection.

The break-in happened in early May and OPP seeks public help in the end of July? Why the delay? The stolen collection would have already traveled around the world a few times..

I thought the same thing but then was reassured that they have been 'keeping an eye' on ebay and Kijiji looking for the thief.

The delay was so that they would not tip the suspect off that they were watching kijiji and ebay for any seller who was selling the items in question. They way it sounds the owner knew what he had and probably gave them a detailed list. I hope they catch the guy, sounds like it could have been any one of us.
Rest in Peace

Wow, these things are getting really close to home, I hope this person is caught soon.
Lately at my LCS someone called asking if any coins were sold there and explained to watch out for certain ones cause their collection was stolen, I'd bet it was the same person this story was about.
Feel free to call me Will.

This is why I keep my collection in the safety deposit box, and also why I insure my collection and inventory, even when travelling to coin shows, through Hugh Woods....

$350 a year seems like a lot for insurance, but I am betting that this person is wishing they had some...

Odds are the perpetrator(s) will get caught. Would be nice to have the list of coins/COA # that were stolen.
