Hello all,
So, I'm 80/100 rolls into 2 boxes of pennies. I've discovered something (at least I find) odd. Out of 80 rolls I've recovered 19 wheaties (slightly less than 1 per 4 rolls). On the other hand , I've recovered only (11) 2009 Lincoln bicentennial pennies. I find it amazing that only 12.13% of rolls offer a bicentennial penny while 23.75% have wheats. I'll update these stats after I sort the remaining 20 rolls, but I must ask...
What's going on here?

I've noticed this as well. The only thing I can think of is 2009 is one year while wheats have about 50 yrs. but yes, I find more wheats then 2009's as well

2009s were heavily hoarded due to the Lincoln bicentennial and many rolls were even postmarked as First Day of Issue. Personally, I probably have 50 rolls stashed away with most of them being FDIs.

I did about the same in my recent $25 box. 11 wheats and 9 from 2009, all P's. That may jibe with an Eastern population.
A recent $100 box of nickels yielded zero from 2009.

I really don't get the 2009 nickel thing, up in Canada I have put away probably 5 or 6 of the 2009 Nickels Every time I see one, I think wow, how did this get here if people in the US can't seem to get them.

I usually find any where between 15 - 20 Bicentennial cents per box, while I can find 15 wheats per box.

Strange. I had the opposite. Immediately three Lincoln 2009 D Bicentennials and two Wheat pennies out of six rolls so far.

I think your numbers for the 2 boxes are actually high so far. Proportionally 2:! they are about right, but you are lucky to have that many of either in those 2 boxes so far. Your next box might have only a single wheat in it.

There was a thread on here a while ago discussing how many wheats are potentially still in circulation, the number was incredible (to me) something in the hundreds of millions. Oh by the way... I've never found a single 2009 U.S. nickel, even after going through around 40 boxes. I live in Canada, but I still see lots of American nickels.

SO last night I was going through some rolls of cents, and I started getting full rolls of US coins (being in Canada) this was odd, but I have encountered it beofer, well, in actual fact I had about 5 rolls of full US cents. Low and behold in those 5 rolls I got about 10 wheeties, including....... a 1911s This was by far my best US cent score yet. I have found 2 IHC as well, but still waiting for the 1909

Two more Lincoln Bicentennials for me. Including one that has sharp details. I may consider sending it in to PCGS depending on what my local coin dealer thinks. I trust them. That's the fourth or fifth one this week so far for me.

I've been quietly roll searching for copper for a couple of years. I've gone through 106 boxes and have found only 1,400 wheat backed pennies (.54%) and although I don't have a specific number of 2009 coins (don't keep track of them) I figure that I have roughly the same number of them too. But I wouldn't be surprised if I have more 2009 pennies than wheat backed coins.
The peculiar thing that I've noticed is that I've found way fewer of the Capitol construction coin that any of the other three coins (don't know why that would be). The thing is that I'm saving all that I find and not paying any attention to condition until I have enough to really come to grips with them. In the area of the country where I'm at I'm finding more 2009's from the Philadelphia mint. Haven't found any with the San Francisco mint at all.
I'm averaging 13 wheats per box and slightly more (I believe) of the 2009's.
In all those boxes I've round 550 Canadian coins. Not many but more than I would have expected. Okay here's where I fall down on my kings. I found 15 of Edward (?) (Good queen Liz's father) and an equal number for his father. The remainder of the Canadian coins represent all phases of QE's reign (young to old). They're probably not worth a whole lot (if anything) but they are interesting.
