Yes, you're right, I missed that the first time. I have seen Shield nickel proofs with die cracks, but the V nickels usually had that figured out. I am still giving it a small possibility for being a proof. The details and luster are possible on business strikes of this date, but look at those rims. I own certified V nickel proofs that looks less strong and powerful than this piece. That die crack though would be rare. I suppose it might have been just a very early strike and everything involved with the minting process went perfectly. This is a great buy for $13. Easily worth double.
