I am not sure what I have stumbled upon, but I havent ever seen this coin ever so I was wondering if it may be worth any money to a collector or something. It is a 1918 Five Centavos Filipinas. I believe it is an S mint but I am not familiar with coins and their rarities, but I was hoping someone could help me out with the subject. Thank You.

These were made at the San Francisco mint for the government of the Philippines. The 1918 has the highest mintage of any of the coins made at the SF mint, so it is not worth much. HOWEVER, we need much better pictures because there are 3 different die varities of the 1918s, including a repunched date, a S/S and a mule (a 20 centavo reverse with a 5 centavo obverse). These are very rare and very sought after, worth much money.

Are there any significant looks on the coin that can determine whether or not the die is different? I doubt mine is special in any way, but who knows... Maybe I got lucky.

Quote:

The 1918-S Mule was produced when a Twenty Centavo reverse die was mistakenly combined with a normal Five Centavos obverse die. The 1907 - 1929 Twenty Centavos used the same reverse design as the 1903 - 1925 Five Centavos and had a diameter which was only .5 mm smaller so it is easy to see how this error occurred. The 1918-S Mule has a smaller date and wider shield than the regular Five Centavos. The 1918-S Five Centavo Mule is one of the rarest and most sought after USA-Philippine coins.

Better close up pictures of the reverse would help us determine.

Still kind of far away, but I can tell you with a reasonable amount of certainty that it is not a 1918s Mule, sorry

The pictures need to be super close up to tell if it is one of the other varieties.
