Trying to save a 1971-D 50C FS-101 from a poorly stored mint set... Mint set grime vs. acetone round 1!

Before:
Mint-Cellophane-Haze-Vs.-Acetone

After 30 Minutes:
Mint-Cellophane-Haze-Vs.-Acetone

Now in for a 12+ hour soak...

Nice restoration. Just curious about how did all those scratches get on a coin that was supposed to come from the Mint and sealed in plastic?

The mint set coins back then weren't handled with kid gloves lake the proof coins are. They were handled like regular business strikes which means the potential for scratches and contact marks.

Plastic film doesn't provide much impact or scratch protection either.

Yes. that is excellent! I've used acetone a few times, but not on a very hazy coin. Looking forward to trying it.
