The obv looks very natural and it was all I noticed at first, and wondered why you posted then the rev loaded and it looks like easy bake to me. Toning like that would have been end of roll, but then again who knows?

Regardless of whether it is natural or AT, at least it is already in PCGS plastic and that is all that matters to alot of people. If you buy it, just don't crack it because that attitude will go away upon resale...

It looks good. Whether it was put into an environment where it could tone (like an old wayte raymond board) or if it just did so naturally is anybody's guess. But it doesn't scream blatant AT.

I like it. If I had more cash in the warchest I'd be your competition for it. LOL

A lot of unnatural looking things can happen in nature. But I think something unusual happened to it, but it could have just been stored in a folder or album, which might explain why the back is so different than the front.
I wonder if toning that dark and strong can hide a lot of little marks, which helped its grading.

I have some that look similar, I say it's natural.

I basically don't like toned coins. I'm from the old days when coins should look like coins. 1. It probably is naturally toned 2. It may have toned while in the slab. I just can't imagine that grade for such a weird one sided tone from PCGS. 3. From the similar coins I've seen at coin shows this is already over priced 4. It appears there is wear shown on the obverse but none on the reverse which makes me think something is not kosher here. 5. From what I remember of your 09S VDB this coin would not fit into your type of collecting. 6. Enlarged photo is not clear enough to properly evaluate but I still don't think it deserves that high a grade. 7. However as I said I just don't like toned coins.

I think it's natural toning. I have seen coins tone like this one in very old coin folders (that are high in sulphur content). That is why there such a marked difference between the obverse and reverse. Keep in mind that I'm not an expert in toned coins, this is just my opinion.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to bid on it. There's a select few individuals who will pay rediculous prices for colorful, toned coins. Hopefully I'm not up against any of them. It's already above gray sheet and the auction still has a full day to go.

I like the obverse of the coin ,Im not in love with the reverse . The purple tone on Lincolns is a natural color for the coin ,,and from what I can tell is a combination of finger oils and sulphur and perhaps a little heat and humidity which produces it . almost every cent I find that has the purple tone has seen some circulation ,, or at least has been handled . I would be more concerned with "environmental damage" causing the color. He also looks over graded in my opinion (which could pose a problem if you plan to resell), there are much better examples available for the grade. But, if the price is right, it may be worth the risk?

Well I lost the auction :(
I'm looking for some nice, unique examples to create a one-of-a-kind "09" lincoln set for 2009, the 200 year mark of Abe's birthday. The lime-green S-VDB is a good start. Unfortunately if I find a gotta-have-it 1909-S I'll probably end up single.
