Calling it quits after over six years of steady hunting. Cancelled my two remaining accounts, even with direct deposit, they kept upping the fees to the point that it's not worth it anymore (even for my love of the hobby) I'm just burnt out.
I searched mostly dimes the last few years and even though my success has been one silver per $150 over that time period, it's not enough to hold my interest anymore. I wish everyone on here the best of luck, and will still read the forum.
Im relying on my wife now for the finds, she's a teller/loan officer at a bank. I have to say that even her finds have been very dismal the last couple years - still waiting for her to bring home more solid silver rolls that shes found in the past! I can understand the need to take a hiatus from time to time. I'm working on wrapping up a box of cents and when that's done I'm going on hiatus myself, until the loose coins are all spent or when I get off my sitting end and take them to my dump bank....whichever comes first.
I eventually will get back into it, and I hope you do too.

Understandable. I thought you were done collecting and then I saw your username and got sad because I enjoy all your posts, especially CRH. I just finished 5000 cents.
Fistfulla, take a break and maybe they'll lower the fees. Best of luck, hopefully it is only a break. I used to tell at a bank, hopefully your wife has some good finds.

Dimes wear me out also, thus why I have only done 2 boxes of the things in the past few years. The are jsut boring when you see the same thing, different date all the time, and they are tiny and blinding to read.

I never was a date searcher. Never counted individual coins. I can search $1,000 in customer rolled in less than two hours. Total searched was approx just over $150,000, over six years. Never saw the same thing, dozens of mercs, Barbers, proofs, hundreds of silver Canadians, coins over 100 years old. Right around 1,000 silver keepers total.

Yes, my wife has vault duty, she cannot order coin, only currency. I had accounts at six different banks and CU's. I was never charged a fee for dumping or ordering, but, all the banks eventually added monthly maintainance fees, when I asked what to do to avoid fees and complied, they would just up the ante and the fees came back. Greedy greedy greedy.

Totally understandable!
I'm down to 4 boxes of halves each week and even that's getting to be one big grind.
I'm probably very close to just doing $10.00 worth of pennies everyday like I first started out roll searching about 6 years ago also like you.
One bank started charging $6.00 a box for ordering, so I stopped ordering from that bank and cut everything in half.
Sometimes you just have to say enough is enough.
Good luck in your FUTURE searching etc!

fistfulladirt, Are you a business owner? If you are you should be able to open a business account and I don't think they will charge you then. John1

I took a "short break" from the hobby about 3 years ago and have yet to pick it back up again. Between my job, my wife, and my baby, there just isn't enough time to burn 2 hours on a box.
Anyway, best of luck to you! I've had some decent luck finding an occasional keeper in my change, so there's always that.

it must of been a lot of fun when it started up, then oh drag here comes fees and abuse from tellers gets old I have been in the game for two years but I have been lucky enough not to run into fees just teller gasps and the rolling of the eyes,or the bank manager asking how many times do you dump here and this is last time you need a business account,i told my wife I should open one and dump all my coins there they would be sorry after a week, they'd be buried in halves lol, the best thrill is the first find and then a so called monster box, at least to us the amount found might be less then ten to be our monster , any hoot thanks for sharing your posts with us.....

I will adopt a stepwise approach on this issue.
First, quit on penny. Already did. Started this year no more penny.
Second, quit on dime if I find the elusive 47-S. My OCD tells me that I have to find the 47-s. Maybe this year or may next year. I have the feeling that the 47-S is just around the corner.
Third, quit on halves on the condition that I find 55-Ben. Again my OCD controls me. I need pray on this because the 55-Ben may never show up in my box.
Fourth would be nickel. But I may just do one or two boxes each week for ever. I just like the sight of an AU or better Buffalo showing up in a box.
